A major automotive component supplier seeks a visibility solution to help manage hundreds of reusable containers used to deliver product from 30 manufacturing facilities to distribution centers around the globe. The solution needs to help the company lower costs and increase the efficiency of operations.

Reusable containers of various materials, sizes, and costs are critical to the automotive component manufacturing process, often moving between supplier, manufacturing plant, distribution center, and customer. For the supplier, these containers represent a significant capital investment and are critical to operational efficiency. Annual container-loss rates average from to 4 to 6 percent — even more in the case of smaller containers. Inventory audits and unplanned purchases to deal with container shortages add to the cost of operations.
